True, there’s a ‘SNIP’ capability that’s available in Vista now…but it doesn’t come as an option for Home users. While a bunch of bloggers have chanted the wonder and awe of finding this, their making the same mistake noobs do.

Not checking other Operating System versions.

For an easy to use ’snippet’ creator of screen items on your monitor, run over to www.bhelpuri.net/snippy. You can create rectangles, free hand copies, add a border of pixels…and it’s free!

.: Managing your online empire financially

Pro blog this, pro blog that. With doing all this potential futuristic nonsense, you’re going to have to shell out some cash…wanna make money, ya gotta spend money.

Last year I got involved with Washington Mutual, known online as Wamu.com. For four years I’d been using two major players in online banking, each one charging me monthly no matter what I did. Wamu doesn’t, hasn’t, and won’t.

Going with Wamu saved me a MINIMUM of $110.00 USD annually. That’s how much it costs to run my blogging between server space, URL, and anything else. Before that, I was having to work first for my online business before ever paying myself.

Another cool feature of Wamu is they’ve also got the ability to add savings accounts to your account. Each time there’s a transaction or payment received from an advertiser, I simply transfer a percentage of it to my online savings there…at a 3.3% rate to boot. Sweet!

Blogging Tips: Your readers right to privacy

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

One of the bigger subjects coming up in smaller circles lately is the recent trend of blogs posting the ‘Came From’ or even actual IP address of the visiting reader. Combine this with the use of avatar widgets from MyBlogLog or BlogCatalog, and other readers get more than what they need.
For the visitors; at least using ‘MyBlogLog’; there’s an easy workaround or two:

  • Hover your mouse over your avatar and click the ‘red X’ when it shows up, then follow the instructions. Granted it may take a few minutes, but it’s effective.
  • If you use Firefox then your settings, cookies, and other identifying info are what’s ‘giving you up’. Either use Internet Explorer for running in ’stealth mode’, or simply make the choice of not visiting sites that give out this information without consent.

Eventually they’ll grow up and have something else worth reading besides your underwear stains online.

Today’s Tip: If you’re driving in Baltimore and get rear ended, then you’ll probably be in need of the services of a Baltimore car accident attorney. Nuff said!

Blogging Tips: Know What’s Expected Of You

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

Since the recent Goggle Dance I’ve been revamping who or what I connect my blog with in terms of products, paid links, and other forms of monetization. When I first made the jump I’d been blogging for over three years in varied forms and genres. What I’m finding out now is that I didn’t do my homework or take some careful thought of who I ‘jumped in bed with’.

Legal BriefsBefore you click ‘agree’ or even consider placing any form of content on your blog that’s paid for, you need to know if you have an ‘out’. Can you take off the entry at a later date if you so choose to? Granted you may or may not make that choice, but when you agree to do business with a company that expects a paid entry to be permanent…that’s what they mean.

Taking money is pretty much a gimme that you’ve agreed to the conditions of the contract, which is what the issue is here. Take off an entry that you’re paid for later; when it’s expected to be permanent when paid for; and you…

…nevermind. If you don’t get the idea, you need to go seek legal counsel. I’m not your lawyer, and you’re only paying attention. Nuff said.
