Mission House Thanksgiving Dinner
Wednesday, November 7th, 2007I had the chance to speak directly with Jan Flagler who’s the man behind the plan over at Mission House serving Jacksonville Beach’s unsheltered residents.
This year’s request for volunteers to serve their Thanksgiving Dinner were met, thanks to so many people stepping up for this need.
Now that the chickens have been counted, it’s time to count the eggs…still coming up a bit short there. Mission House is one of the FEW…VERY FEW…services available to Jacksonville Beach’s residents using their services, and honestly they don’t get their fair share of media attention compared to downtown Jacksonville’s service providers.
That’s not vent, just the plain truth. Here’s what I got from Jan in an email that’s still necessary to pull this holiday feast off.
Turkeys, hams, gravy, stuffing, green bean casseroles, cooked vegetables, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rolls, Seven-up & Hawaiian Punch, coffee, plates, cups, plastic wear, and napkins.
Please contact Debbie Giroux as soon as possible at 221-1700, x 208 to coordinate what food you are bringing for the Thanksgiving meal. All those preparing food must contact Debbie Giroux to coordinate food deliveries.
Help make this Thanksgiving Dinner a special one. Don’t think there’s ever enough…Thanksgiving leftovers are loved by homeless too!
