Wired News: Navy Has No Clue
Wednesday, July 4th, 2007
One of Wired.com’s sections; Danger Room; put word out that the Navy is putting the word out for what sounds like subcontracting the means to know where the next bomb’ll be.
Sounds pretty assanine to me. All they have to do is ask any Seaman who’s into first person shooters or other games involving the same tactics the enemy is using against them.
The hilarious thing about this info is that it was the military…and most noteably the Navy in particular…was actually using video games over 60 years ago as training tools for their more sensitive needs.
How would I know this? From an old naval gunner who ended up drawing and engineering parts of the USS Forestal and USS Saratoga aircraft carriers. His own family didn’t know what he was doing until 15 years after he retired from the work.
Unfortunately after knowing about these cool games, he wouldn’t even have the help of a geek wannabe hired on to transfer all his work on paper into a computer. It would be another generation until CAD was a requirement of drafting, and many years of dry rough elbows from leaning on a drawing table 10 hours a day.
Getting back to the Seaman though, he’ll never be asked his opinion by a superior who’s ASVAB scores are lower than his as well as admitting a Seaman could prevent deaths…more than he or she ever can or will.
Your tax spending dollars at work.
The guy with the dry elbows at the drawing table…he gave me something he used in the Navy to protect and save sailor’s lives.
Colorblindness. He was my grandfather.
Always remember, the higher in rank a person gets…the dumber they look when they’re caught with their pants down. If your a citizen of the United States, remember this holiday that you’re where you are due to a handful of men choosing to be unreasonable whatsoever.
Have a happy, joyous, and reflective Independence Day this year!
