.: Donations of entertainment equipment have their effects on people experiencing homelessness

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

A number of times; having been within the homeless system for two years; I’ve had the chance of witnessing firsthand ‘downtime’ of families trying to get it together.

Kids are kids. They watch television in their spare time, play video games, and do Pokemon battles. If you think a TV wall mount wouldn’t be appreciated in a family dorm setting of a homeless shelter, think again.

If a television isn’t wall mounted, it depends on valuable space needed for a floor stand, end table, or chest of drawers recycled as a stand. Many corporations choosing to do end of year charitable giving sometimes don’t think ahead and accessorize completely gifts they’re giving.

If you want to have a better effect on your own charitable giving, contact the agency in advance to see if there are any new gifts received that would be better suited with an accessory, stand, or other add on…that’ll make a better addition to lives on their own path to stability.

LSS Upcoming Events

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007

Sometimes people honestly can’t afford to give financially. Other times it’s a matter of not being able to find the time. It’s understandable. Lutheran Social Services has events coming up for everyone to be a part of making a change against hunger, including just putting a can or box of drygoods in your mailbox.

Click here to see a list of their upcoming events. You can also get added to their monthly email, which honestly doesn’t spam you…no pun intended.

There are so many people that are helped by this agency, and the majority of them are children.

Michael J. Herkov: When Good Disciples Are Called ‘Bad’

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

The ‘Doctor’ I mentioned in my prior post…here’s a link to the story in Jacksonville.com.

Surprisingly, when he was cited in October for feeding at the church, he faced BOTH a fine of just $100.00 and 60 days in jail. Excuse me, but if you’re under 18, ask your parents before you click the ‘Read More’ link that follows…this is an adult entry that follows.

$100.00 AND 60 days jail time? Would someone please tell me just who or what group was involved in setting this as a justifiable form of ‘rehabilitation’?

I won’t give anyone the satisfaction of knowing what I just deleted from this post in drafting it.

This is about Money, Control, and Intimidation to anyone who does not abide by political correctness and following the lead of green, in my humble opinion.

Doctor…I have a message for you. Don’t question the will of God.

Jesus told me to tell you that your Bible is your weapon, and that you need to open a bunch of ‘Woop Ass’.

Those weren’t his exact words, but I can’t translate hebrew.

Go get ‘em, Tiger. Blessings to you.

The rest of you.

Deal with it.

Feel free to eMail. Chances are if you’ve got an issue, I’ve got your solution. If not, I’ll find it. If not then still, I promise I’ll be honest enough to smile when I try to bullshit you with it. Either way, you’ll be glad you did!

great100nurses.com: Julia Wood Nominated

Sunday, February 4th, 2007

This one goes out to all the hot nurses. YEAH BABY!!!

…I always wanted ta say somethin’ like that.

Great 100 Nurses is having their yearly thing, honoring those that are considered the best. While companies, doctors, and all the medical people can say whatever, I think it’s really up to the people SERVED that the nomination should come from.

Deadline Postmark by: February 28, 2007

Do it now, while you still can. Make no excuse for not!

My choice? Nurse Julie…no, not from Pokemon…the Medical Home for Homeless Children Project. Going to the shelters…getting people together at a table…redirecting people back on task and subject…and educating parents, she’s Jacksonville’s own Florence Nightingale.

That, and her husband’s got a great reindeer tie!
