Some things you just have to accept

About twenty years ago I was introduced to a frail young lady, my sister in law. In her twenties, she appeared as a 12 year old due to multiple handicaps which include cerebral palsy.

I’ve never been one to be put off from someone with a disorder they’re dealing with, but it wasn’t easy finding common ground until I one day realized my 20something sisterinlaw to be would never be just that…to me.

She’d always be a 12 year old giggly girl with eyes having a crush on her future brother in law. It was after this realization that I became more closer to her, as well as always able to tease her about new boyfriends and not being able to date or marry me while having any.

Some people will tell you to do this…do that…or the other. Sometimes it’s just better to accept things at face value, than play the whole head game. Kids and family members with special needs translate into family members HAVING to make adjustments, no matter what anyone says.

It’s just that adjustments need to be a matter of the person in the relationship…not anyone ‘advocating’ for others, while getting a paycheck or marketing spin on a commercial for it.
